Have a personal style you genuinely love.
Many of us have no clue where to start when it comes to finding our personal style. One day you might be dressed all party-like, and next, you covered up from head to toe. Nothing is wrong with any one of these. But, regarding your style, you want to differentiate yourself from others. Personal style is you and helps you be spotted in a room easily. Sometimes not knowing how you should dress, you do it for others. I say that’s a form of an identity crisis.ย ย

1. Switch Up Your Wardrobe
One of the first steps is to start clearing out your closet space. This way, you know exactly what you do and don’t need. Therefore when you go shopping, you know what you need to buy for your style aesthetic. Often, we overlook the small details; in this case, it’s the items we already bought ahead of time.ย ย
2. Shop at different places
It’s time to think about where you usually shop. Look at the brands that you have in your closet. Choosing where you shop can force you to lean towards a particular style. For example, if you shop at Everlane or Asos, you might be more interested in casual chic. But if you shop at Madewell, your style of interest is Bohemian. When you continue shopping at the same stores, it can be challenging to find your style. Since that’s what the store usually sells, so it’s best to change it slightlyย
3. Find Your Color Palette
Let’s not forget about a color palette. Having specific colors often makes it easier for you to choose your look. Think of it like this if you’re into neutral shades, for instance, beige, black, or white. The outcome might relate to you being a minimalist, which is considered an overly simplistic look. With different color themes, it should help in figuring your outfit choices.ย ย
4. Play Around With Fabric
Embracing several fabric types is important, as some fabrics have better qualities than others. Cotton, cashmere, or lace all have a different texture feel. Most clothing is made of cotton within a variety of stores. Discuss what fabric feels more comfortable on your body and if the cost will make or break your decisions. Countless quality items don’t come cheap.ย ย
5. Invest in Accessories
Hello, Jewelry! If you thought there was no need for it, think again. An earring with beautiful detail can do wonders for a plain outfit. Accessories are something I usually forgot all about until this year. I don’t know anything about jewelry, and I don’t throw on many rings and necklaces. Remember, too much of anything doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. But details matter when it comes to the perfect style.ย ย
6. Have Signature Pieces
A signature piece is not necessarily an item like a jacket. A signature piece is an item that will make a simple outfit not so basic. It can be silver jewelry or earring that you can always wear. Remember to find your personal style. It’s all about the details, and a signature accessory is a perfect way. To bring taste to a bland look and make it worth wild.ย ย
7. Go with Your Instinct
What is the first thing that comes to your mind? When you feel something is right, go with it. Sometimes going with your first choice in the beginning, is best because we usually go back to it in the end. When it comes to perfecting your style, it’s all about instinct and what feels right to you. Evidently, this step is one of the essential tips you should follow.ย ย
8. Imagine Your Personal Style
What silhouette speaks to you? What style do you think will fit your personality? When it comes to seeing what fits your body, a little imagination can go a long way. Before you go out and buy items that match one style, like grunge, ask yourself this question. Is it something you can wear daily, night, or day? This tip comes with a lot of questions you have for yourself.ย ย
9. Search For Inspiration
Finding something that inspires you can help you figure out your personal style. I like to think that you can find some interesting looks on Pinterest. You can always read a magazine or book, but the best bet is a platform like Pinterest or Instagram. Unlike Pinterest, I think it’s easier to find different iconic looks. Just by typing styles, you see a variety of looks that would be eye-catching. I post some fashion posts that might inspire you here.ย ย
10. Bring Confidence
Confidence is key to many problems, and one of them is your personal style. For example, a tight-fitting top has been designed to expose certain body areas. You should bring your A-game and not care how anyone else perceives you. Be confident, and you’re at it; you might inspire others to do the same.ย ย
11. Be Your True Self
You need to express yourself in a way that allows you to be your true self. It gets the best of us when we choose a style because of someone else. Is that you, and if you feel like there’s something wrong. Then most likely, it’s not, so don’t be someone others want you to be.ย ย
12. Find out what you like and don’t like
Doing this from the get-go will make it easier for you to know what. You should and should not buy. Let’s say you have a favorite shirt in your wardrobe. It must be a reason it holds to such a standard. If you like it so much, why is it? It is because of the way it feels against your body. Is it the features? Or does it reflect your personality? Just like things we like, we have items we don’t like. We wonder why in the world we bought it in the first place. The best advice I can give you is to figure out what items donโt interest you.ย
13. Name a style
Better yet, name a style; it’s not complicated – there are so many choices to define your style. So many options to choose from, like artsy, boho, casual, or grunge. I don’t want to narrow down all your choices because there are so many. It’s super-easy to get ready if you already know what you’re going towards. In the long run, you’ll find a better version of that style; as you begin to play around. You’ll realize the pieces you genuinely love and use create various variations in developing your style.ย ย
14. Look at your lifestyle
For instance, if you work in an office, dress pants, and blazers might be ideal for a businesswoman. But if you’re a homebody who works from home. A cute outfit that’s not too comfortable, so you will not fall asleep by being too cozy. All these factors matter and should be looked into. Not just work-related, but where you live and your long-term lifestyle. Always remember your lifestyle when you want to be a certain persona as you start out in the world. When creating a personal style, don’t just throw out any idea that initially seems ridiculous. Many factors should be considered in defining your style because you may enjoy something opposite. Donโt be too quick to judge.ย ย
15. Find pieces you haven’t worn in a year
What items do you have hiding in your closet and haven’t seen daylight in a year? You might find some pieces that you forgot all about, and you even bought them. This is the moment when you should take a look. You might be surprised to find out that it’s something you now like. I had many times I found an item that I knew I had bought but couldn’t find it. This is a beautiful way to discover something new from what you already own.ย ย
16. Pick a trend that caught your eye
The long wait for trendy items has been coming throughout the year. So many new trends have come into the fashion market. The first order of business is to pick the most impactful trends that speak to you, from prints and modern leather to knee-high boots. Most of us see trends making a comeback with a bit of a twist. Find a trend that speaks to you no matter what year it is. It will help you to discover your personal style, meaning your personality is shining.ย
17. Choose pieces where you receive the most compliments
Choose the outfit where you received the most compliments. This mostly means the outfit suits you, so that’s a straightforward way to help you choose your style. The eyes of someone else might do some good. Cause we sometimes overlook what’s already in front of us. This way, we have a better idea of what style may look good.ย ย
18. Find styles you haven’t tried yet
I’ve tried so many versions of styles by adding my touch to every one of them. I liked what I thought I wouldn’t; I wasn’t into print for a while, and now that all changed. Change is good when it’s for the right reason. When you repeatedly do the same things, nothing will happen, so experience something you never thought in your wildest dreams you would wear. If you’ve worn many neutral colors, switch it up and wear bold colors like yellow or pink.ย Letโs be honest. Thereโs no shame in trying.ย
19. Choose the best adjectives that describe your personal style
Think about the adjectives that come to mind. Like what is a word that often pops into your mind when you think about an individual style? For example, dressy, simple, clean, bold, or artistic. Starting with a few words can be the template for discovering your personal style. To be in the position of having the right style shows who you are. Then, it’s best to try a few items that fit into the category of words.ย ย
20. Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone
I’m not saying you shouldn’t wear what’s comfortable for you. All I’m saying is don’t be afraid to get out there and try something new. For example, I never liked wearing crop tops and was so uncomfortable wearing them. Experimenting with options outside of what you usually wear can do some good.ย ย

I love this. I definitely feel as though my personal style is always evolving.
My personal style underwent a major change due to the pandemic. Instead of buying things that were trendy I just started buying things that made me squeal with excitement. So now my wardrobe is basically Star Wars and Disney tees and sweatshirts haha. It will be interesting styling them for going out in the future.
That sounds like a fun choice of style. It’s nothing like wearing what makes you happy.
About a year ago, I took the time to write down some of my favorite textures and any related descriptive words that I could use for my personal style. I’m definitely a classic dresser with a huge love of cozy, practical neutrals and flattering pieces. I don’t like to jump too far outside my comfort zone with trends, but I don’t mind finding the rare piece that stands out to me and makes my wardrobe pop! I look forward to more opportunities for styling in the future, when things are less challenging!
Right now textures are one of the most important to me. So many different fabrics can irritate my skin. So I often go for a softer feel.
These tips are spot-on and so helpful for finding your personal style! I found that as I got older, my personal style became a lot more clear.
Love that you featured Leslie, she interned at my job a couple years ago and always had the best stylish outfits!
The same for me too. Sometimes I still like to try new things. Also, that pretty cool that you knew Leslie; it’s like a circle.
